FoxNews Host "Apologizes" In Face of Outrage After Mocking Canadian Military

God, that Greg Gutfeld is one smarmy and pathetic sack of shit! Here's the article about his "apology". He's using that old standby copout of "oh, we were just joking - not serious!" That's bullshit.

OTTAWA - A Fox News host apologized Monday to Canadians in the face of widespread outrage over comments he and his guests made on a late-night talk show.

The statement came hours after a request by the Canadian government for an apology over remarks about this country's military that were described as "despicable" and "disgusting."

Greg Gutfeld, host of the controversial segment on Fox's Red Eye show, said he never intended to make light of Canadian military efforts in Afghanistan.

"However, I realize that my words may have been misunderstood," Gutfeld said in a statement released by Fox News.

The recent talk-show segment was taped just before four more Canadian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan and featured a group of pundits taking turns trashing Canada and its reliability as an ally.

Earlier Monday, a spokesman stressed that the Canadian government specifically wanted an apology from the panelists who made the wisecracks - and not just from the Fox network at large.

"These are despicable, hurtful and ignorant comments," said Dan Dugas, a spokesman for MacKay.

"I think that so-called comedian should stare in the camera at his first opportunity and apologize to all of the families of people he's hurt with these despicable comments.

"And he's got to say, 'I was misinformed. I was ignorant of the truth and the contribution of the Canadian Forces to the war on terror, and I want to take it back. I know as a comedian that I can fail sometimes; I failed miserably at this so-called comedy.'

"And his panelists should say the same."

Apologizing seems like a everything thing in Faux News. They talk out of their asses then they are force to say, Oh I was misinterpreted! I apologize.

Being a former member of the Canadian military, I have to say that his comments are innapropriate and misinformed. The comments do not bother me much, since they really are just the comments of an ignorant American who knows nothing about Canada or its military, but they are innapropriate because our country is currently mourning the loss of four soldiers in Afghanistan. We have lost soldiers, just like America, and our contribution to Afghanistan is only beaten by America, Britain, and maybe Germany.

Our military is the butt of plenty of jokes, sure, but these comments were just ignorant. It is probably a good idea the comedy club in Edmonton cancelled Benson's appearance. I know if I was there, he would have been hurt. Plenty of Americans tend to get offended when other countries insult their army or soldiers or country, so why does that make it acceptable to insult ours?

His "apology" does not fix anything. It is just a script that he reads off of every time someone at Fox offends someone. They are right, what he, and his panelists, need to do is, on camera, openly apologize for his comments and the offence he has caused for members of the Canadian Forces, and the families of the deceased.

its the same as when letterman or jon stewart or colbert say things.
it is a comedy show.

Ive heard many comedians make bad political jokes.
they are not journalists or politicians, they are comedians.

Honestly, I don't know of any TV show in Germany like this. Of course we have our late night talk shows like Letterman and such, but that's kinda different.
This here is a show masked as "news comedy" whose sole purpose (as it seems to me) is to ridicule, belittle and disrespect others. What is a "news comedy" anyway? That's like setting up a peeing area in a pool or shooting a porn with ten year olds. News and comedy can hardly be matched without being morally wrong, totally ignorant or just plain stupid.
I have to admit, I knew that there are some really dumb, superficial and stupifying things in the American media, but this almost startled me. Unbelievable how ignorant and disrespectful a nation can become, that once wanted to be the role model for us all.

It's pointless to argue with someone who thinks it's fair play to use comedy to sling insults at will against anybody without repercussions. You can say what you want but the fact is they've crossed the line over and over and every time they use the same excuses and never apologize.
